Plans for the future

The Department of Endocrine and Breast Surgery at SGPGI is committed to create awareness and provide a viable locally relevant knowledge base, as well as provide state of art treatment facility for various breast health related problems. In this direction,

It is planned that the SGPGI Breast health programme be strengthened to provide a broad based community awareness and advocacy campaign, provide state of art screening, diagnostic and therapeutic facilities to patients, and carry out research in areas of breast diseases with emphasis on issues specific to the Indian breast cancer patients. The SGPGI breast health program aims to put in place a comprehensive internet based breast health support system for use by health care providers even in remote areas of Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states. The SGPGI breast health web-site (www.SGPGIBreastHealth.org.in) is planned to be upgraded to a full-scale health portal providing various awareness, diagnostic and health information needs to the lay public, patients and health professionals alike. Availability of appropriate protocols on this website would help surgeons in various parts of the state provide a uniform scientifically sound management plan to any patients even in remote areas. The SGPGI tele-medicine center which is linked up to all medical colleges and district hospitals, and many other health centers in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal states would provide a ready way of tele-consultation, aiding diagnosis and providing a second opinion and follow up services in an inexpensive, convenient and expeditious manner. The web-site, and dedicated telephone and e-mail help lines would provide patients and ladies at risk with information, and address any queries related to specific breast health issues. Availability of professional advice of the highest order absolutely free of charge to patients and support and opinion to treating surgeons from SGPGI is expected to be of great help in the current era where specialists’ advice and care are out of reach of common Indian women, given their poor economic state.
